DIEP Flaps & Tug
Your anatomy is unique, so the surgeons at Restore will create a customised treatment plan specifically for you. There are several different ways your breast reconstruction can be accomplished, including DIEP flaps & tug reconstruction.
Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap (DIEP) is a method of reconstructing the breast after surgery such as a mastectomy. The procedure involves removing a piece of skin and fat from the abdomen, and using it to reconstruct a natural-looking breast.
Many women consider this approach as the ‘gold standard’ for breast reconstructive procedures, as it can look and feel much more natural. DIEP flaps create a warm, soft and pliable reconstructed breast which resembles natural breast tissue.
If abdominal tissue is unavailable (due to previous abdominal flap, tummy tuck or limited skin and fat) a free flap from the inner thigh area (the TUG flap) is an excellent choice for reconstruction of the breasts. In our practice, the buttock flap is occasionally used as our third choice.
